sitting down and writing

Yesterday was the NaNoWriMo Marathon day. It was the first time I'd really sat down with Deus Contra Machina in far too long. And I wrote _thousands_ of words. It felt great.

FACTOTUM

one of my favorite words and it happens on a day with significance for me. haha.

DID YOU KNOW?
“Do everything!” That’s a tall order, but it is exactly what a factotum is expected to do. It’s also a literal translation of the New Latin termfactotum, which, in turn, traces to the Latin words facere (“to do”) andtotum (“everything”). In the 16th century, “factotum” was often used in English as if it was a surname, paired with first names to create personalities such as “Johannes Factotum” (literally “John Do-everything”). Back then, it wasn’t necessarily desirable to be called a “factotum”; the term was a synonym of “meddler” or “busybody.” Now the word is more often used for a handy, versatile individual responsible for many different tasks.

Today is the last day of the Fast.  The last day of winter. And now it's been five years since my trip to Wisconsin where I saw more snow than I'd ever seen in my life.

What else is in store for this day?

Well, it's one of those days. And that's not a bad thing.

Where is my life? Well, the thing is I am behind where I thought I'd be, but I'm not stagnant so that's something. In general, I'm actually pretty darn happy. As of this past Sunday, I'm living with a woman whom I love and respect, and who loves and respects me in turn. So that's positive.

I'm not rich and I don't have kids or own my own home, but neither am I incarcerated nor am I on the outs with anyone I care about.

I have the freedom to constantly create, I have friends, I have opportunities. In this world what more can one ask?

The time has come, the walrus said

I love Jane.

She'll be here tomorrow night.
I don't think i could ever be with anyone that doesn't make me laugh, and that Jane does, in spades.

People say that Laughter is the best medicine, and i believe they are right. I've lifted a thousand spirits and serenaded a million souls. Making people laughs makes people feel good. One classic example is back in the olden days when I was spending time with Leslie. Her sister Catherine accidentally stabbed herself in the eye with a pair of pliers.  She didn't lose the eye but when she was in the hospital and in pain and slightly medicated, I wound up alone with her for over an hour. I don't recall why, but I kept her entertained with stories about wide-mouthed frogs and The Tick cartoon.
14 years later at Leslie's wedding, she told me that she remembered how my random entertaining musings kept her sane. It made me feel good.

These are the thoughts I thought.

Books, creative projects, and whatnot. Lots and lots of whatnot.

Greetings, Programs!
Today I endeavor to create a blog. If you're reading this, on today or any other day (which whenever you're reading this will be your 'today' so that kind of irrelevant -and hey! my first digression!), I thank you for being part of this project.

What will this 'project' entail? Ramblings. Updates. Philosophical meanderings about the tendency toward universal complexity. but mostly ramblings.

This seems like it would be easier to update and communicate through than my website so more effort will be put into this, especially as things like NaNoWriMo, the Family Dinner Comedy Troupe, Brutal Hijinx and my own stand-up efforts do their things.

Anyway, I've got to go, but remind me to tell you about this fabulous book I'm reading called "Shantaram," and one I've recently read called "Ready Player One". And about a million other things that need to be written down.
